COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The aim of course is gaining ability to students to examine Byzantine painting arts; mosaic, fresco, manuscript and icons in terms of technique, style and iconography according to features of the era.
Course Content At the end of this course, the student; will be able to explain in general perspective and techniques of Byzantine painting; to examine similarities and dissimilarities the techniques of Byzantine paintings according to periods; to discuss political, social, religious, economic and artistic situation of the periods to consider the subjects of the Byzantine painting art. Teaching techniques are lecture, discussion, question & answer, demonstration. The students are required to attend the classes regularly and to read of key materials for prepare to lessons.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Will be able to discuss general definition and techniques of Byzantine painting.
2Will be able to define Byzantine painting (mosaic, fresco, icon, manuscript)
3Will be able to discuss differences and similarities of Byzantine painting samples according to era.
4Will be able to recognize Byzantine paintings according to their iconography and style.
5Will be able to define Byzantine painting samples.
6Will be able to distinguish Early Byzantine paintings from Anatolia and Italia.
7Will be able to recognize of manuscripts collected in İstanbul, Europe and U.S.A. libraries.
8Will be able to discuss development of Byzantine painting in light of samples.
9Will be able to discuss Byzantine painting according to political, social, religional and economical conditions of era.
10Will be able to examine socio-cultural contexture in development of Byzantine painting art.
