COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The aims of the course are to recognize structures and findings found during excavations and fieldworks dated to the Byzantium Period, to examine the Byzantium art. The objective of the course is to recognize the material and its technique of Byzantium architecture and architectural decorations.
Course Content Most of the ruins which we encountered both in excavations and surveys are generally belongs to Roman and Byzantine Periods. Thus, course of Byzantine Archaeology is being closed this deficiency. In this course, architecture, sculpture and art which called as East Roman Empire or Byzantine Empire is being given especially Anatolia weighted. Subjects such as Byzantine Culture, Byzantine Architecture, Byzantine Architectural Decoration and Byzantine Pottery are being explained as main titles.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1To be able to recognize Byzantine buildings and artifacts in an excavation or a fieldwork
2Examine Byzantine art.
3Recognize materials and techniques of Byzantine architecture and architectural ornaments
4Examine Byzantine political and social structure
5Have a basic knowledge about small finds and handcrafts of Byzantine period.
6Have a consciousness about how to protect, present and conserve the cultural heritage
