COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The aim of this course is to comprehend the formation of the first kingdom in Anatolia and its reflection on archaeological data. It is aimed to have a basic knowledge about the archaeology of the Hittites in Central Anatolia and to discuss the cultural results of their relations with their neighbours.
Course Content Within the scope of the course, the political history, architecture and main cities of the Hittites, as well as the main archaeological material groups of this period such as ceramics, seals, metal and ivory, are presented. The relations of Hittites with different political units in Anatolia such as Arzawa, Tarhuntaşşa, Kizzuwatna are evaluated through written sources and archaeological data.

1The ability to make comments on first city states and first states which follow them by observing the political history of 2nd millennium BC
2To examine the main characteristics and principal cities of Hittites
3To be able to discuss on main characteristics of Hittite art and architecture and their impacts on later Anatolian cultures
4To be able to discuss the impacts of Hittite cultures on neighboring cultures
