COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective To be able to define the concepts of city and village from the Archaic Period and to know where urbanization started, to have information about urbanization and urban planning in Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods. To understand early stages of the first settlements in Anatolia, the transition from the village to the city, the formation of the first commercial cities in Anatolia, the formation of small city states in Anatolia, urban plans in Anatolia, the development of the Greek cities. The basic principles of this lessons are understanding the relations of the ancient regions and cities in the geography of the ancient Anatolia with the geography and environment.
Course Content Topics such as the urban appearance, architecture, urban development, the relationship between the city and its surroundings, the social role of architecture, form, meaning, structure and structure technology will be covered. In addition, the cities and structures that come to the fore in some ancient regions will be shown in detail.
