COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Bachelor's Degree
Course Type Compulsory
Course Objective Knowing the stages in the emergence of architecture. To express the basic properties of the Archaic period architecture in Greece, Italy and Anatolia and to recognise the differences between the regions and transition from timber architecture to stone architecture through history. General properties of the Archaic period structures, architects and the place of their implementations with the process of architectural development will be explored.
Course Content Structures of the Archaic period and architectural practices attested in them will be presented with images according to the structure, architect and historic developmental process. Examples will be picked from among structures whose architects are known or whose architecture displays unusual practices. Sanctuaries and temples and other exemplary structures since the beginning of the Archaic architecture will be explored within stylistic, regional and phasic groupings. Dominant features of architectural elements used in the architectural orders of antiquity will be described as per structure and region.
