Course Objective to have knowledge and to gain basic skills in literacy development in early years, teacher’s role in literacy teaching, pre-reading and pre-writing activities, creating literacy-based curriculum and learning environment and literacy assessment.
Course Content Language Acquisition theories, language and concept development in early years, the importance and the context of early literacy activities, teachers’ role, embedding literacy into curriculum

1Explain language and concept development in early years, factors that effect in language and concept development, and teachers’ role.
2Explain content of early literacy, practices that are implemented to help developing early literacy.
3Be aware of the importance of early childhood education programs, teachers and learning environments to help developing literacy skills.
4Assess samples of early literacy activities.
5Plan education program and design learning environment to develop literacy skills.
