FACULTY OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

General Information

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was established with the Presidential Decree dated 25.07.2022 and numbered 5868. From this date on, within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, which was previously established with the Law No. 3837 dated 3.07.1992, the departments of Archaeology, Geography, Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures, Philosophy, French Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, Protection and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, Psychology, Art History, Sociology, History and Turkish Language and Literature have become part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Among these departments, following the establishment of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the first ones to admit students were History and Turkish Language departments as the academic year of 1994-1995. The Faculty has started to provide undergraduate education in the departments of Philosophy since the academic year 1999-2000, Sociology and English Language and Literature since the academic year 2000-2001, Archaeology since the academic year 2002-2003, and Art History since the academic year 2003-2004. The Department of French Language and Literature began to admit students in the academic year 2009-2010. As the departments of Geography and Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures in the academic year 2014-2015, the Department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage in the academic year 2019-2020, and finally the Department of Psychology in the academic year 2021-2022 have started to admit students, the number of the departments providing undergraduate education within the faculty has become 12. In 5 of these departments (English Language and Literature, Art History, Sociology, History, Turkish Language and Literature) students continue to be admitted to Evening Education programs. The first of the buildings that the faculty is currently using for education and research is Block B, which was completed in the academic year 1999-2000 as the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, which houses the administrative floor as well as the educational units. Block A was put into use in 2004, Block C in 2006, and Block D in 2008.


Objective

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences aims to train qualified individuals who have adopted an approach based on scientific ethics and working methods and who have internalized Atatürk's Principles and Revolutions; it aims to work in the fields of research, education and service on a national and international scale and to present their outputs for the benefit of the society. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences aims to be an exemplary institution with the education it provides and the qualified people it raises in line with an approach that is innovative, transparent and open to development.
