Course Objective Teaching genetic principles in plant breeding, breeding methods applied in self and cross pollinated plants theoretically and practically.
Course Content Definition, history, importance and purpose of Plant Breeding, Crossing over, mutations, interspecies hybridization, chromosome mutations, selection, gene engineering, Variations, formation mechanisms of hereditary and environmental variations, modifications, Mitosis, Meiosis, Crossing over, Qualitative characters and heredity, Quantitative genetics, Inheritance of quantitative characters, Heritability, Reproduction systems in plants, pollination and fertilization, incompatibility, sterility, Hybridization and applications in plants, Breeding methods in self-pollinated plants, Breeding methods applied in foreign pollinated plants, Mutation breeding, Polyploidy, resistant and tolerant description of plants, resistance mechanisms, resistance to biotic and abiotic stress factors, embryo culture, double haploid technique will be explained.
