Course Objective To know taxonomic, biological, ecological, physiological, economic and agronomic concepts about cold and warm climate vegetables such as onion, garlic, carrot, lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radish, bean, tomato, pepper, eggplant, melon, watermelon, squash and cucumber and to learn the cultivation of these vegetables
Course Content In this course, the cultivation of important warm and cool climate vegetables that have high economic value and are widely cultivated are explained separately: Amaryllidaceae (onions, garlic) Apiaceae (carrots), Asteraceae (lettuce and salads), Brassicaceae (cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radish), Fabaceae (beans), Solanaceae (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant), Cucurbitaceae (watermelon, melon, squash, cucumber). After briefly describing the general characteristics of each family, information is given on the origin, taxonomy, variety types, morphological characteristics, soil and climate requirements, sowing and planting distances and methods, special cultivation techniques, harvesting methods and yields of each species.

1Students know the origin, classification and biology of warm and cool climate vegetables
2Students learn biological, agronomic, ecological and physiological characteristics of warm and cool climate vegetables.

4Students will be able to establish production gardens for warm and cool climate vegetable species, perform cultural practices and solve problems encountered during cultivation.
