2785 PHILOSOPHY PHD

GENERAL INFORMATION
Graduate education in the Department of Philosophy started with two programs which are “Systematic Philosophy and Logic” and “History of Turkish-Islamic Thought” in the 1995-1996 Academic year. In this department, first philosophy doctorate program was opened in partnership with Adnan Menderes University in 2010-1011 Academic year. Since it was decided by Turkish Higher Education Council to close doctorate programs within partnership, this program was closed in 12/09/2019 and for this reason, accepted its last students in the 2019-2020 Academic year. The application to open a doctorate program by the Department of Philosophy of Pamukkale University was accepted by Turkish Higher Education Council and thus, this new doctorate program has started to accept students since 2020-2021 Academic year.

Objective
The objective of this program is to equip the individuals with some abilities which are to do philosophical analysis, to interpret the concepts and problems/situations/facts with philosophical view; thus, to generalize intellectual viewpoint and to contribute to the culture of philosophy and development of philosophical thought in Turkey. With this viewpoint, this doctorate program also aims to raise people who can study independently and produce in this field.


Admission Requirements
Admission requirements of this program are to be have master’s degree in philosophy, to get acceptable score from the ALES (the entrance exam for academic personnel and graduate education) and foreign language exam in accordance with the legislation and to be successful in the written exam / oral exam, lastly.

Graduation Requirements
For PhD degree, it is necessary to complete course term, to be successful doctorate proficiency exam, to have an accepted dissertation offer, to be successful in the Dissertation Monitoring Committee meetings in accordance with related regulations/directions and finally, to defend the dissertation successfully.

Access to Further Studies
There is no higher level academic program than doctorate program. Therefore, the ones who completed the doctorate program can attend to post-doctorate education process and continue to academic career in the related field.
