Course Objective
Seeing the reflection of the developing technology in archaeological excavations has become a necessity for the studies carried out today. The opportunities offered by the studies defined as digital archeology contribute significantly to field and laboratory studies, evaluation and interpretation processes. The recording of data, the creation of digital copies and the multi-faceted sustainability of these studies provide practicality, intelligibility, archiving and the opportunity to be improved over time. Furthermore, considering the threats posed by the changing world conditions on the common heritage of humanity for various reasons, keeping a fast and accurate record of our cultural heritage is of urgent importance and digitalization is now mandatory. In this context, the main aim of the course is to make people perceive the importance of using digital technologies in archaeological research in all areas from documentation to education; will teach key digital applications such as documentation, data collection and management, remote sensing, imaging and simulation. Bringing together the science of archeology and the digital world, educating experts in a newly developing field will be another goal of this course.
Course Content
Within the scope of this course, documentation, mapping, 3D modeling and animation studies will be discussed in general. In the education and training process, it will be ensured that data generation, transferring data to digital media, recording non-repeatable research and measurements, creating reference resources for various excavation plans, conservation and repair projects will be learned and applied. Basic elements such as the preparation of all course contents with an interdisciplinary approach, the handling of studies within the framework of modern and at the same time developable principles, providing a new perspective in the scientific field as well as contributing to the preservation of our cultural heritage will form the framework of the course.
