Course Objective 1.The aim of this course is to teach students the origin and development of human right and democracy. 2. To give information to students about the educationof human rights and democracy in modern societies. 3. To be discussed the status of the teaching of human rights and democracy in Turkey today based on a critical perspective. 4. To be discussed What new trends in human rights and democracy teaching in modern societies examining the applicability of the new trends in human rights and democracy education in our country. 5. To prepare a research paper including their own opinion and asessment about the new trends in human rights and democracy education by reviewing the past related scientific research.
Course Content Basic Concepts on Human Rights and Democracy Major Understandings of Democracy, Principles of Modern Democracy, Secularism-Religion-Science-Democracy, Major Legal Texts on Human Rights, The relationships of Human Rights and Democracy Education with Family, Human Rights and Democracy Education in Primary Education, Secondary and Higher Education Programs and Emerging Issues, Primary and Secondary Education for Human Rights and Democracy Education and Related Activities, Implementation and Evaluation of the activities, the Results of the Human Rights Studies.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Students learn the theoretical knowledge about the origin and evolution of human rights and democracy .
2Students gain information how to teach human rights and democracy in modern societies.
3Students discussed from a critical perspective the status of the human rights and democracy teaching in today's Turkey.
4Students evaluate what new trends in human rights and democracy teaching in modern societies, and discuss the applicability of the new trends in human rights and democracy education in our country.
5Students prepare a research paper including their own opinion and asessment about the new trends in human rights and democracy education by reviewing the past related scientific research.
6To acquire the knowledge and ability of how to present effectively their prepared research project to the class.
