Course Objective The aim of this course is to teach the basic concepts of toxicology, the components that may have toxic effects, and to determine the mechanisms underlying toxicity at the molecular level.
Course Content Definition of toxicology. Foreign substances, drugs and pharmaceuticals, microbial toxins, chemicals and biological weapons. Definition of ADI, LD-50, NOAEL, NEL terms. Classification of toxic substances. Toxic doses of common substances. Toxicity tests. Acute and chronic effects and metabolism of some toxic substances. Biochemical and molecular mechanisms of toxicity. Carcinogenesis. Animal experiments in toxicology.
