Course Objective The aim of this course is to transfer of knowledge about treatment of suspended and dissolved materials that not removed by conventional secondary treatment with advanced oxidation processes and its treatment mechanisms.
Course Content Definition, categorization and function of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs), Definition/type of radicals, radical scavengers, their formation, radical scavencers, radical measurement methods, Ozonation and ozon chemistry, application of ozonation in water treatment, UV/H2O2, O3/H2O2 and UV/O3 processes, photochemical-photoelectrochemical oxidation; light sources, calculations, foto-catalysts, reactors. Fento-Fotofento oxidations and other developing AOPs, AOPs and enhancement of biodegradability, AOPs and detoxification of wastewater, AOPs and disinfection. Laboratory applications: Measurment of H2O2, Ozone, ORP and light intencity, determination of optimum dose, model organics for the radical measurement.
