Course Objective Sociology of New Media Studies: Theories and Concepts aims at providing a framework for understanding the effects of new media both on society and individuals from the view point of critical theories (i.e. cultural studies, political economy) and brings new questions to the agenda of the students.
Course Content Nowadays new media (digital technologies) and new media environments are inseparable parts of our everyday lives. The effects of new media and the usage of new media are discussed by different disciplines from sociology to cultural studies, economics, as well as communication studies. Thus, the effects on both individuals and society of these new information technologies are widely disscussed from different perspectives. In this course content, the new media environments and their features will be determined and the basic concepts and the different theoretical perspectives to the new media related issues will be introduced.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1By the end of the course, students should be able to raise awareness about the current effects of new media on both society and individuals.
2Students are expected to have abilities to discuss the effects of new media through the advanced concepts of new media theories and approaches.
3Students are supposed to gain abilities to discuss these effects within the contextual framework by analysing historical, economic, political background
