Course Objective Theories about the aims and methods of science and discussion of the historical development of science. The aim of the course is to discuss examples of the history of science and different views on science.
Course Content This course provides a historical examination of some of the key issues in the philosophy of science. Then, the nature and definition of science are discussed. Later on, some of the most important questions explored by the philosophers of science today are discussed with the special cases arising from the history of scientific thought. Philosophical problems are evaluated in relation to thought experiments, confirmation and disconfirmation of theories, fasifiability and pseudoscience, induction, scientific explanation, and underdetermination.
