COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective This course is designed to enable students to gain insight in Teaching English to Young Learners. It covers a wide variety of theoretical and practical issues as to teaching techniques and strategies taking into account children’s personal, social, and emotional development and its impact on learning as well as children’s needs. Within this framework, language skills such as speaking, listening, reading, and vocabulary learning will be discussed, and the implementation of these skills will be done in respect to course book use, lesson planning and other activities such as games, drama and songs. Finally, classroom management techniques to be applied among learners will also be emphasized.
Course Content In this course students learn the theory and practice of such basic issues as features of children learning a foreign language,activity, task-based teaching, teaching language skills such as listening,speaking,reading and writing as well as gramar, vocabulary and pronunciation teaching, songs, rhymes and chants, games, and storybooks. They also learn how to select materials for young learners, classroom management, using technology, and assessment of young learners.
