Course Objective In this course, it is aimed to discuss the types of children's literature, the role of children's literature in acquiring reading culture and the role of children's literature in gaining other concepts in preschool education program. It is also aimed to raise awareness of the role of the teacher in the participation of children in Turkish language activities and in the perception of children as a source of entertainment and information. To develop teachers' knowledge and skills about early literacy practices. Explanation of the theories related to language development and teachers' assessment of children's receptive and expressive language problems are among the objectives of this course.
Course Content 1. The purpose and importance of children's literature, reading culture 2. Language development theories 3. Evaluation of language skills in children (receptive and expressive language) 4. Types of children's literature (digital books, wordless books, picture story books…) 5. Characteristics of qualified children's literature products 6. Examining children's literature research and discussing the results in the context of teacher, child and family 7. The place of children's literature in the program (associating with science, mathematics, Turkish language, Art activities) 8. Sharing and discussing Turkish language activities application examples 9. The place and importance of children's books in dealing with difficult emotions 10. Book reading techniques (traditional reading, interactive reading) 11. Children's libraries-Arrangement of book centers in preschool education institutions 12. The role of the teacher in the context of increasing child participation in Turkish language activities 13. Arrangement of the book and book reading practices with different techniques 14. Arrangement of the book and book reading practices with different techniques 15. Children's literature and early literacy relationship
