COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Master's Degree
Course Type Elective
Course Objective Design-based Research is a lens or a series of analytical techniques that balance positivist and interpretive paradigms and balance attempts to bridge theory and practice in education. Design-based research, in which experimental educational research is blended with the theory-oriented design of learning environments, is an important methodology to understand how, when and why educational innovations work in practice; Design-based research methods aim to reveal the relationships between education theory, designed work and practice. The aim of this course is; to introduce students to different design-based research methods in educational research and to develop educational practices through iterative analysis, design, development and implementation, leading to collaborative and contextually sensitive design principles and theories between researchers and practitioners in a real-world setting with a systematic but flexible methodology.
Course Content 1) Understanding different design-based research styles, conducting them in the field of education 2) Understanding the principles of using design-based research approach 3) To carry out all stages of a design-based study, including original design work, introduction to an environment, data collection, data reduction, data analysis, improvement of designs and reporting of research results. 4) Integrating known and hypothetical design principles to produce reasonable solutions 5) Conducting rigorous and reflective research to test and refine innovative learning environments 6) Research and development through continuous design, implementation, analysis and redesign cycles 7) Research on designs that should lead to shareable theories that help convey relevant implications to practitioners and other education designers
