COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Master's Degree
Course Type Elective
Course Objective The objective of the course is to develop an in-depth understanding of pedagogy for the application of technological/engineering design based approaches to intentionally teach content and practices of science education integrated with all four content areas and practices in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses. The course emphasizes engineering design process as defining and delimiting an engineering problem, developing possible solutions optimizing the design solution. Further, the course offers to investigate, teach, and disseminate new integrative approaches to STEM education.
Course Content What is Science, Technology and Engineering? Science, Technology, Engineering and Society Interaction Integrated STEM Approaches Science and Engineering Practices Engineering Design Process: Define Problem, Design Solutions, Optimize 21.Century Skills
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.
Mode of Delivery Face to Face

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Understand the importance of science and engineering practical knowledge and skills
2Design an activity and develop a worksheet based on steps of science and engineering practices
3 Develop an insight into the pedagogy of STEM learning model and to enrich their theoretical knowledge and the importance of STEM learning
4Engage practices by taking steps to develop and implement a STEM based engineering design process including the process of definition and research the problem, determine possible solutions, development and implementation a plan, evaluation, reflection and improvement.
5Develop basic professional skills - oral and written communication skills, collaboration skills, research (gathering information) skills, problem solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, adaptability, initiative and entrepreneurialism through STEM learning
6Engage real world problem solving process with an understanding of multidisciplinary insight into various fundamental sciences, mathematics, environmental, social, cultural, economic and ethical issues through STEM learning
7Engage learners as active learners through STEM based learning as a means to construct their own knowledge, enhance their interest toward science, and competency in science concepts and nature of science
8Develop skills of problem solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, and information skills to investigate, draw conclusions about, decision-making process and create content through STEM learning
9Provide an extended process of scientific inquiry in response to real world and authentic problems and controversial socio-scientific issues through STEM based learning
10Encourage learners be able to foster an aspiration in serving as a model to adopt STEM learning as teachers for their students in their classroom practices
