Course Objective Principles of biology in science education curriculum; To discuss their relationships and comparison among other content areas such as chemistry, physics, environment topics.
Course Content Week 1: Investigation for biology topics in elementary science education curriculum • Week 2: Comparison of the topics in the other science fields of the biology topics • Week 3: New teaching approaches related with biology education in previous study • Week 4: Constructivist approach (5E and 7E Learning Cycle Models) • Week 5: Multiple intelligence theory, Six thinking hats technique • Week 6: Analogy, concept cartoon, worksheet, and drawing methods • Week 7: Concept of concretization methods (Semantic features analysis, Concept network, Mind map, Concept map and Conceptual change text) • Week 8: Project-based learning, Problem-based learning Week 9: New approaches to the use of the laboratories (Inquiry-based, research-based, scientific process skills, predict-observe-explain, Vee and I diagrams) • Week 10: Alternative approaches to assessment and evaluation (portfolio, rubrics, structural communication grids, diagnostic tree, word association etc.) • Week 11: Designing learning activities based on new approaches • Week 12: Designing learning activities based on new approaches • Week 13: Application of designed learning activities • Week 14: Application of designed learning activities
