Course Objective The concept of biodiversity, which entered the conservation strategies as a target with the conference in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, has become one of the most important and comprehensive topics of conservation / sustainability discourses today. The diversity of genes, species and ecosystems has begun to be regarded as a huge global wealth of potential in terms of sustainability. The loss of biodiversity is perceived as a global problem and it is tried to be regulated by international rules. Genetic sources of vegetable origin are of great importance for food and agriculture, especially considering the nutritional needs of the world population. Understanding these features and interpreting them from a geographical perspective are among the main objectives of the course.
Course Content 1.Biosphere: Living resources of the earth 2. Biological diversity: Genetic diversity, species and species diversity, ecosystem diversity, diversity of life on earth. 3. The meaning of biological diversity (medical, agricultural, economic, scientific and cultural meaning). 4. Human, food and biodiversity 5. Distribution of biological diversity: Terrestrial biodiversity, factors creating diversity and distribution 6. Distribution of biological diversity: Biodiversity in marine and other aquatic environments, factors creating diversity and distribution 7.Distribution of areas where biodiversity is important and the impact of human factors on earth 8. Plant diversity centers, criteria and regional distribution 9. Threats arising from the loss of biological diversity-I 10. Threats arising from the loss of biological diversity-II 11 and cause diversity in Turkey 12. Biological globalization and examples 13. Biodiversity and global warming 14. Globalization, Turkey and biodiversity

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
2Develop an in-depth understanding of biodiversity of our surrounding environment based on interaction among basic concepts, principles, and theories, historical, cultural and social values in so doing creating awareness throughout biological diversity.
1Understand the cause of diversity in Turkey. Understand Biological globalization and examples and biodiversity and global warming. Globalization, Turkey and biodiversity.
