FBE 575BIOMIMICRY APPLICATIONS IN ENGINEERING DESIGN3 + 01st Semester7,5

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Master's Degree
Course Type Elective
Course Objective In this course, students will be developed to develop models based on biomimicry principles in engineering design. Taking advantage of the properties of biomimicry in engineering design will provide students with a unique learning opportunity in understanding both scientific concepts and engineering design principles. The importance of system, system models and system thinking approaches in engineering design will be emphasized.
Course Content Description of biomimicry and examples. Importance of biomimicry in engineering design education. Understanding biomimicry by using the relationship between structure and function in biological organisms is an effective way to involve students in engineering design process as an engineer due to the links between the natural and the world built by mankind. Students will be provided to design and develop a model based on biomimicry principles in engineering design.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.
Mode of Delivery Face to Face

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Learn and understand basic skills needed for understanding biomimicry including, but not limited to, biological systems, chemistry, ecology, and engineering.
2Identify patterns in nature, the relations between form and function, think in a systems manner, and design in context based on discover and understanding of nature as model.
3Biomimicry provides sustainable and innovative design solutions to the most pressing global challenges.
4Biomimicry as a way for inspiration from nature enhance creative problem-solving, design thinking and systems thinking. creativity and problem-solving skills
5Design challenge to apply biomimicry concepts and tools provide an interdisciplinary platform to connect STEM subjects to one another, and to the real world by involving students to work collaboratively in teams.
6Biomimicri provide a new way for young people to view and value the natural world; to see nature not just as something to learn about, but as something to learn from.
