Course Objective The main aim of this course is; to give information about the development processes of astronomy which is one of the basic branches of science. In addition, with the help of different disciplines from antiquity to the present, it is to examine the historical results of the ideas and observations about our planet, the solar system and the universe from different perspectives.
Course Content Astronomy as a Basic Science, Universe Models, Greek Astronomy, Greek Schools, Astrology and Astronomy, Medieval Astronomy: Astronomy in Europe, Astronomy in the Islamic World, Andalusian Astronomy. Ottoman Astronomy, Developments After Renaissance: Nikolas Copernicus, Tycho Brahe. The Birth of Modern Astronomy: Johannes Kepler, Descartes, Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton. Development of Modern Astronomy and Contemporary Observatories After the 17th Century.

1Explain the concepts of science, history of science, astronomy and history of astronomy.
2Explains how astronomy, which takes place in human life with the realization of celestial bodies, emerged as a part of daily life in prehistoric times.
3It examines the development process of astronomy throughout the antiquity, medieval, modern times and recent times.
4It examines what is gained in science in the field of astronomy from the first days of human beings to the present day. Reveals the relationship between different branches of science and astronomy.
