MIM 505CONTEXTUAL PRACTICES IN ARCHITECTURE2 + 21st Semester15

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Master's Degree
Course Type Compulsory
Course Objective The aim of the course is to discuss architectural context by covering it with cultural content as well as physical content. Architectural contextualism becomes visible within discursive sphere in the 70's as an attitude towards being associated with pure geometry, viewed as objects and abstract forms independent of relationships with the location of buildings. On the other hand, although it appears as a critical move, it gradually tends to be perceived as a set of objective data and formal fixation as an authoritarian background by accepting and repeating the descriptive aspects of the physical environment. The aim is to reproduce contextualism as a critical design tool in terms of historical expansions and dilemmas within the geographical, location, tectonic, cultural and economic frameworks that will present different scales and contents within the scope of current architectural practices.
Course Content Within the scope of the course, architectural design researches will be developed for the limits and transgressions of architectural contextualism as physical and cultural contents that can be pluralized within rural, urban, industrial, archaeological, historical frameworks.
