MAIM 551PRINCIPLES OF PLASTIC INJECTION MOLD DESIGN3 + 02nd Semester7,5

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Master's Degree
Course Type Elective
Course Objective Plastic injection molding is one of the most difficult areas of mold making, which combines many areas of mechanical engineering such as fluid mechanics, hydraulic systems, machining methods. Therefore, it is aimed to evaluate in detail the very complex mathematical calculations, manufacturing information and flow analyzes required by engineers and academicians working in the field of plastic injection mold design.
Course Content Plastic injection product creation cycle. Working principle of plastic injection machine. Plastic injection machine selection criteria. Structure of plastic injection mold and standard elements. Injection system and calculations. Part ejector system and calculations. Cooling system and calculations. Determination of properties and molding values of plastic materials. Product defects in molded parts and their compensation. Computer aided mold design applications. Computer aided temperature, filling and cooling analysis
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.
Mode of Delivery Face to Face

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Plastic injection molding, in which indispensable products of our daily life are created, is not in demand enough in the academic sense. Today, while it is one of the most popular subjects of mechanical engineering departments in undergraduate and graduate fields, it is given as an elective in a few faculties in Turkey. With this proposed course, an important postgraduate deficiency will be eliminated.
2The design and molding principles of plastic products used in many fields such as automotive, aviation, household appliances and marine will create important gains for engineers working in this field and wanting to specialize.
3Even if it is a very simple product, the mold parts and apparatuses belonging to it are quite expensive and difficult to machine. For this reason, it is vital to carry out finite element analyzes of the molds before starting the mold manufacturing. In the proposed course, filling, cooling, temperature and defect analyzes of these systems, which have a very complex structure, are carried out and contain important data for engineers working in this field.
