Understanding the chemical transformations in welding and the effect of heat
Course Content
General metallurgy, Brief introduction of melt welding methods. Heat flow at welding; Residual stresses, distortions and fatigue, Chemical reactions at welding; Fluid flow and evaporation at welding; Melting zone (Basic solidification concept), Solidification of weld metal (Grain structure), Solidification of weld metal (Microstructure in beads),Post-solidification and phase transformations, Chemical homogeneity of weld metal, Weld metal solidification cracks; Partial melting zone and its formation, difficulties with partial melting. Heat affected zone (working hardened materials, sedimentation hardened materials, conversion hardened materials, corrosion resistant materials).
