Course Objective Fiber architecture of textiles used for composites. Manufacturing processes and geometric quantification. Basic analysis for predicting elastic properties. Fiber reinforced polymer matrix composites. Interrelationship of elastic properties and geometric quantities. Failure criteria for these materials.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Defines and explains manufacturing of TRM, incorporation of fibers into matrix and terminology of manufacturing.
2Defines and explains fiber-matrix interactions, parameters affecting TRM properties (size of reinforcer, length of fibers, void volume) and mechanics of TRM.
3Defines and explains general information about static mechanical properties of TRM: tensile, compressive, flexural and shear properties.
