Course Objective
Teaching students what composite materials are, how they are and which production methods are used, and designed for what purposes, mechanical properties, advantages and disadvantages of them.
Course Content
Definition and classification of composite materials, Polymer matrix composites, Metal matrix composites, Ceramic matrix composites, Carbon matrix composites, Resins, reinforcements (fibers) and filling materials in polymer composites. Composite materials manufacturing methods; Hand lay-up, Spray-up, Sheet Molding Composites SMC and Bulk Molding Composites BMC, Glass Mat Reinforced Thermoplastics GMT, Transfer Molding Composite, Reinforced Reaction Injection Molding RRIM, Resin Transfer Molding, Pultrusion, Filament Winding, Vacuum Transfer Molding VTM, Vacuum Asissted Resin Transfer Molding VARTM, and Pre-preg methods.
