INS 592DESIGN OF BUILDINGS WITH SHEAR WALLS AND DEEP BEAMS3 + 01st Semester7,5

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Master's Degree
Course Type Elective
Course Objective To give information about: Structural and architectural design of multipurpose ( and multi storey ) buildings with sear walls; Fundamental improvements provided by shear walls for earthquake resisting rc design as well as architectural functions; Examples.
Course Content Structural and architectural design of multipurpose ( and multi storey ) buildings; Shear wall - frame interaction and its necestiy; Investigation of sufficient ( and the most effective ) shear wall section for each storey; Thin and weak ( ribbed or flat ) slab systems of tall buildings essentially needed; Torsional effect of lateral loads and shear walls; Arch type roof systems for large spaces at a top storey; Structural systems of multi storey buildings with spaces i.e. show rooms, saloons ( without interior columns..) at the ground ( or basement ) lor; Shear wall – deep beam frames with suspended lor systems; Deep beam as a support of another beam; Columns supported by a deep beam.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.
Mode of Delivery Face to Face

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Student comprehends interaction of architectural demands and earthquake resisting rc structural design,
2Find outs that most design examples ( without shear walls ) can be improved drastically by means of shear walls,
3Find outs great extra architectural advantages provided by shear walls added,
4Find outs advantages provided by shear wall – frame interaction,
5Gets familiar with extraordinary rc design cases with shear walls.
