Course Objective to introduce linear theories for plates under perpendicular service loads; to show analitical solutions & basic examples for rectangular & circular slabs; to give brief & principal knowledge about finite differences & finite element methods; to give brief & principal knowledge about yield line theory for rc slabs;ences & finite element methods; to introduce linear elastic shell theory for thin shells ( by means of SAP 2000 software ).
Course Content Introduction, Cylindrical bending, Pure bending, cylindrical plates, Boundary conditions, General small deflection theory, Cartesian and polar coordinates. Fundamentals of yield line theory of slabs, Shells, Derivation of shell equations, Numerical methods for plate and shell problems, Computer applications .
