Introduce the basic principles of optics and understand the light wave in guided medium.
Course Content
Basic principles of optics, Polarization,Reflection and Refraction, Planar mirror waveguides, Mode solutions for dielectric planar slab waveguide, Mode solutions for dielectric cylindirical waveguides, Two dimensional waveguides, Photonic crystal waveguides, Characteristics of single-mode and multi-mode optical fiber, Coupled mode theory, Loss and dispersion mechanism in optical communication waveguides
