COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective This course teaches the examination of the etiology and epidemiology of mental health problems, a review of theorists and theories in psychiatric nursing, maintenance, and development of mental health, handling emergency situations, and the concept of care.
Course Content This course will cover the basic clinical conditions, forensic psychiatry, and legal and ethical practices that nurses need to know for psychiatric patient care. Various clinical conditions will be examined, including obsessive-compulsive disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, dissociative disorders, somatic symptom disorders, sleep disorders, sexual dysfunction disorders, and eating disorders. In addition, the necessary knowledge and skills to provide care for forensic psychiatric cases and to comply with legal and ethical standards will be taught. Treatment plans, patient monitoring and evaluation, medication management, and other treatment methods, including nursing care, will also be discussed.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1The student will recognize various psychiatric clinical conditions, including obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, dissociative disorders, somatic symptom disorders, sleep disorders, sexual dysfunction disorders, and eating disorders.
2The student will gain the ability to provide care for forensic psychiatric cases and adhere to legal and ethical standards.
3The student will acquire knowledge of the etiology and epidemiology of psychiatric illnesses.
4The student will be proficient in concepts related to maintaining and improving mental health, managing emergency situations, and providing care.
5The student will have knowledge about nursing care issues such as treatment plans, patient monitoring and evaluation, medication management and other treatment methods, and will be able to transfer them to the clinical environment.
