Course Objective This course teaches the etiology and epidemiology of mental problems, a review of theorists and theories in the field of psychiatric nursing, the protection and promotion of mental health, the handling of emergencies, and the concept of care.
Course Content In this course, the history of nursing and the roles of psychiatric nursing are examined. Information is given about the history of the nursing profession, the development of nursing, and the history of psychiatric nursing. At the same time, information is given about cognitive, psychoanalytic, psychosocial, ego psychology, and object relations theories. These theories explain the processes underlying human behavior and the effects of these processes on human behavior. Within the framework of learning theories, information is given about classical conditioning, operant conditioning, social learning, and cognitive learning/information processing theory. These theories explain how human behavior is shaped and can be changed through learning. Information is given about the data collection process and physical and psychosocial assessment in psychiatric nursing. This process is important to determine the patient's condition and to create an appropriate treatment plan. Within the framework of Clinical Conditions, mood and related disorders, schizophrenia, and related disorders, substance and related disorders, personality disorders, and organic mental disorders are examined. Information is given about these conditions' symptoms, causes, and treatment.
