Course Objective to understand historical progression of neuroanatomy knowledge, to apprehend historical etymology of neuroanatomical terminology, To investigate the scientific developments and the change of scientific knowledge chronologically
Course Content 1. Overview of the chronological development of neuroanatomical knowledge 2. Views on neuroanatomy before and after Christ 3.Alcmeon, Erasistratus and Herofil 4. Hippocrat and his contemporaries, encephalocentric approach 5.Neuroanatomical views of Galen and his contemporaries 6. Medieval medicine 7.Fundamentals of the modern scientific approach 8. Midterm exam 9. Andreas Vesalius and the importance of dissection 10. Examples of associating clinical findings with neuroanatomy 11. Broca, Wernicke and, motor center of speech, limbic lobe definition 12. James Papez, functional limbic system approach 13. Mc Lean and his fellow neuroscientists 14. Eponymous terminology in the nervous system
