Course Objective The aim of the course of The idea of Utopia and Utopia in English Literature is to provide the student with the capability of using the theoretical knowledge in literary texts. Utopia and the idea Fantastic in English texts, and their reflections in literature will be studied. This course will present how the fantastic elements create fictional worlds and how these worlds are different from each other.
Course Content Texts about how the ideas of Utopia and Fantastic in English literature have emerged and how these are interpreted in literature will be examined. The sides of Fantastic literature corresponding to science fiction, mythology and supernatural and at the same time its differences in terms of theme, the place of the plotline will be studied.

1Knows the basic concepts about Utopia and fantastic literature.
2Knows the features of utopia and fantastic elements in English literature.
3Learns how the idea of Utopia in English literature is analysed in terms of genre.
4Comprehends that Fantastic literature is not only a product of popular culture, but that it is based on mythological sources.
5Compares the ideas of Utopia and Fantastic.
6Understands why the fantastic works increased in numbers in the 19th century.
7Compares the fantastic literary texts from their beginning until the 19th century.
8Defines the differences of the 20th century utopic and fantastic elements from the previous centuries.
9Understands with different examples that each century creates its own utopia.
10Makes researches about the works and knows how to express his ideas in written.
