Course Objective The purpose of this course is to study the theory of short story, identify the differences between short story and novel, and carry out theoretical and analytical studies on short stories selected from English and American literatures.
Course Content The historical, philosophical, political and social relations of the English and American short stories novel will be analysed technically and stylistically. These technical and stylistic characteristics will be compared and contrasted over the examples of short stories selected from English and American literatures and their comparative analyses will be carried out

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1The students understand that novel and short story are two different genres and analyse these two literary works separately.
2They study short stories selected from English and American literatures and analyse them in terms of their techniques.
3They identify the differences between the narrative languages of short story and novel.
4They analyse the possible differences, gains or losses of meanings between short story and novel comparatively.
5 They read and criticise both genres from the perspective of contemporary critical theories despite their differences.
6They write articles on the comparison of short story and novel.
