COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective	The aim of this course is to consider the approaches of the rationalist and empiricist traditions towards philosophical issues.
Course Content	This course is a continuation of Rationalism and Empiricism - I. In this course, the following topics will be considered: the definition of empiricism, its history and methods; empiricism in Ancient philosophy: Democritus, Epicurus; Empiricism in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries: Bacon, Hobbes, Mill; Locke (his critique of rationalists - innate ideas), Hume (Hume’s fork, causality); the critics of empiricism (Leibniz); Kant’s critique of rationalism and empiricism; rationalism in the twentieth century (Hegel); empiricism, positivism and logical positivism; rationalism in language (Chomsky); rationalism and empiricism in ethics (Hume and Kant), and scientific method (Popper, Kuhn, Feyerabend).
