COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Bachelor's Degree
Course Type Compulsory
Course Objective The aim of the course is to increase the knowledge of law faculty students on human rights law and to develop their capacity to apply international human rights law.
Course Content Comparative explanation of the scope and limits of individual rights and freedoms in international human rights documents, especially the European Convention on Human Rights and the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey, the individual application procedure and admissibility criteria through court decisions. The rights that will be covered in the course are as follows: The right to life, the prohibition of torture and ill-treatment, the prohibition of slavery and forced labor, the right to liberty and security, the right to a fair trial, no punishment without law, the right to respect for private and family life, freedom of thought, conscience and religion, freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and association, the right to marry, the right to an effective remedy, the prohibition of discrimination, the right to property, the right to education, the right to free elections, the freedom of movement.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Recognizes the international human rights documents and the supervisory bodies established with these documents, has information about the working method of these bodies and the results of the binding capacity decisions.
2They can classify individual rights and freedoms, reveal their similarities and differences, and comprehend the obligations of the state in terms of each right.
3Recognizes the individual application remedies foreseen for the protection of individual rights and freedoms and has information about the procedural rules to be followed in order to use these remedies.
4Gains knowledge and ability to comment on various decisions made by the Constitutional Court in Turkey and the European Court of Human Rights regarding the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms.
5Gains the ability to apply the acquired human rights law knowledge in domestic law disputes.
