Course Objective To teach to students heat treatmants of ferrous and nonferrous metals, changes in material properties depending on formed microstructure. changes in material properties depending on heat treatment properties and using them in industry. Surface hardening techniques.
Course Content Introduction to heat treatment, allotropic transformation of pure iron, Fe-Fe3C alloy system, slow cooling of plain carbon steel, constant temperature and continuous cooling transformation diagrams, plain carbon steel annealing, normalizing and spheroidization, austenite into pearlite, bainite and martensite transformation hardening of rapid cooling, plain carbon steels, tempering, austempering and martempering, the effects of alloying elements in alloy steels, hardenability, Grossmann and Jominy method for determination hardenability, surface hardening, tool steels, cast iron and stainless steel heat treatment.
