Course Objective To teach students what are the composite materials, how they are produced, which manufacturing methods are used, where and why they are manufactured and designed, mechanical properties, advantages and disadvantages of them.
Course Content Definition of composite materials, application fields, advantages and disadvantages, classification of them. Layer composites, the fiber layer composites, granular composites, types of matrix composites, plastic matrix composites, metal matrix composites, plastic matrix composites manufacturing, Thermosetting composites manufacturing, hand lay-up, wet molding, spraying, resin injection, profile withdrawals (pultrusion), thermoplastic composites production, injection molding, extrusion, coating, inflation, rotary molding, thermoforming or pressure-vacuum forming, rolling, transfer molding, and metal matrix composites, metal matrix composites manufacturing. Composite materials design, material properties, hardness, plasticity, conductivity (permeability), thermal expansion, design factors.
