Course Objective To show the importance of Materials Science with respect to other engineering disciplines and to inform the students about types of materials, mechanical and physical properties of them
Course Content Introduction to materials science, Structure of atom, Bonds between atoms, Crystal structure and types of lattices, Miller indices in lattice surfaces and directions, Lattice faults, Diffusion, Phase diagram phenomena, Iron-steels and non-ferrous materials, Ceramics and polymers, Electrical conductivity, Semi-conductors and di-electrical properties, Magnetic properties, Mechanical properties of materials, Strengthening mechanisms of materials
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.
Mode of Delivery Face to Face

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Definite the engineering materials generally, and determine the application areas of them
2Understand the materials faults observed in microstructure and learn the effects of these faults on properties of materials
3Get knowledge about diffusion phenomena and its laws and also knows the effect of it on material properties
4Learn the phase diagram concept, its importance and use it in applications.
5Learn the electrical and magnetic properties of materials
6Determine the mechanical properties of engineering materials and knows the method of determination of mechanical properties
