Course Objective
The main objective of the course is to provide the mechanical engineering student with a realistic understanding of the basic measurement techniques and to develop skills to use measurement instruments. Also, it will provide basic knowledge which is carried out experimental data with various statistical methods.
Course Content
Basic concepts: Measurement systems, International system of units •Strain Gages: Structure of gages, types of gages, Wheatstone bridge, gage factor •Measurement of pressure: Manometers and vacuum meters •Measurement of temperature: Thermometers, promoters etc. •Measurement of viscosity: Newton’s law of viscosity, viscometers •Measurement of force, torque and power: Mechanical and electrical measurement methods of force, torque and power •Measurement of Speed: Tachometers •Dimensional and angular measurement: Calliper gages, micrometers, angle-measuring instruments and dial indicators •Various Gages: Gage blocks (Johansson), plug and snap gages •Measurement of gears: Control of dimensions •Analysis of experimental data: Least squares method, standard deviation and error analysis
