Course Objective The main objective of the course is to develop in the second year mechanical engineering students a clear understanding of relationship between the loads applied to elastic bodies, and the resultant stresses, strains and deformations.
Course Content •Introduction to Strength of Materials •Stress and Strain Relations: Hooke’s Law,Poisson‘s Rate •Pure Bending •Problems Involving Temperature Changes •Axial Loading •Torsion: Angle of Twist, Elastic and Plastic Deformations in Circular Shafts •Columns •Transformation of Stress strain •Bending: Neutral Axis, Bending of Members Made of Composite Materials, Stress Concentration •Hyper Static Systems in Bending .
