Course Objective
To show the importance of Materials Science with respect to other engineering disciplines and to inform the students about types of materials, mechanical and physical properties of them.
Course Content
Introduction to materials science, Structure of atom, Bonds between atoms, Crystal structure and types of lattices, Miller indices in lattice surfaces and directions, Lattice faults, Diffusion, Phase diagram phenomena, Iron-steels and non-ferrous materials, Ceramics and polymers, Electrical conductivity, Semi-conductors and di-electrical properties, Magnetic properties, Mechanical properties of materials, Strengthening mechanisms of materials.
