Course Objective Definition and evaluation of the stabilities of alloys and ceramics under pressure and compositional conditions. Understanding of phase diagrams. Teaching of heat treatments methods. Understanding of relations between heat transfer, microstructures and phisical properties. Learning of using phase diagrams for heat treatment processes.
Course Content Basic concepts, Gibbs phase rule, unary systems-phase diagram of water, Free energy- phase diagram curves, binary systems; isomorphous, eutectic, eutectoid, peritectic reactions; Fe-C equilibrium diagram; ternary systems, SiO2-CaO-Al2O3 system
