Course Objective Comprehend the materials characterization methods such as Microscopy, thermal analysis and diffraction techniques, which are commonly used in materials engineering
Course Content Introduction to material characterization, Classification of characterization methods, Microscopic methods; optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and principle of operation, Transmission electron microscope and principle of operation. Comparison of electron microscopes. Diffraction analysis, XRD, XRF, XPS. Particle size analysis (BET, microscopic, ..), Thermal analysis methods (TG, DTA, DSC, dilatometer), Fourier transformation (FTIR)
