COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective To inform about production of traditional and advance ceramics, essential raw materials for production, properties and using area of ceramics. To give informations to students about their characterization.
Course Content Definition of ceramic materials, traditional and high-tech ceramics, preparationof ceramic raw materials, mixing methods, drying, calcination, additives, glazing and application methods, Seger formulas, forming of ceramics, cold pressing, cold isostatic pressing, slip casting, extrusion, tape casting. The concept of density, and sintering and sintering mechanisms, pressureless sintering, pressure sintering, hot pressing, hot isostatic pressing (HIP). Solid-state sintering, liquid phase sintering mechanism, X-ray analysis ofceramics, density and porosity determination, micro structures, optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examination, Thermal and Electrical Properties
