Course Objective The study of monetary theory will reward all the economics students with an understanding of many exciting issues. Money, money and financial markets and instutions not only affect our everyday life but also involve huge flows of funds throughout our economy, which in turn affect business profits, the production of goods an services and even the economic well-being of countries than the Turkey Republic. During the course the students learn money, money matters, monetary problems in the economy, monetary approach of economic problems, monetary systems and instutions, financial systems and instutions. The students are aimed to gain a theoretical perspective as well as a permanent analytic character to the economic problem solutions. .
Course Content • The meaning of Money and Money Systems: The definition of Money, The functions of Money, Money systems, the measure of Money. • International Money Systems and Evaluation of the payment system: Money system since one world war, Money system between one and two world war, The system of Bretton Woods and IMF, European monetary systems and Euro. • Financial System and Monetary Instutions: The meaning of financial system, the structure of financial markets, financial markets intermediaries, central banking, banking, financial markets in Turkey, financial markets and credit rating. • The theory of Money and Interest: The theoretical approach of money and money matters, the theory of money and interest of Classics, Keynes and monetarists. • Globalizm and financial markets: The globalizm and financial markets, financial liberalization, off-shore centers and tax heaven countries, globalizm and speculation, global financial system and national economic policies. .

3Identify the reasons of a change in interest rates and consequences of the change on the economy
4Use the theory of portfolio allocation and Risk Structure and Term Structure of Interest Rates for a profit-maximizing portfolio
5Explain the stock market and the theory of rational expectation and efficient market hypothesis
6Identify the sources of crisis and discuss possible financial regulations to get the economy out of the crisis
7Derive strategies and policy implications for an economy
