COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Bachelor's Degree

Course Objective The aim of this course is to teach the students the basic concepts of family, the effects of the child on the family, the adaptation process of the families, the needs of the families and the ways to be met, the main aims, principles and methods of family education, the planning and implementation of family education programs based on the behavioral approach .
Course Content Concept of family; family system theories; the adaptation process of families who have children with special needs; the importance of family participation in the education of children with special needs; theoretical and legal grounds; rights and responsibilities brought to families by laws; families in need of special education participation of students in the education process; evaluation of the student; individualized family education plan (BAHP), individualized education plan (BEP) and family participation in transition plans; teaching to families gaining skills; preparation of institution, home and institution-home-based family education programs, implementation and evaluation.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1To explain the basic concepts of family and family systems approach.
2To explain the adaptation process and needs of the family, and psychological support services for families in this process.
3To explain the importance of family involvement in special education and its theoretical and legal grounds.
4To explain the importance of effective communication and collaboration between school and family; how to establish it and barriers.
5To explain the basic aims, principles and methods of family education.
6 To discuss family education programs for behavior change and skill teaching in children with special needs.
7Students can evaluate studies on family education in Turkey.
